Design & Food Technology
Design and Technology aims to inspire innovation through creativity. We empower creativity by giving students the capacity to manage and control risks within a practical working environment. Pupils at Q3 Tipton can work safely with a range of tools, machines, materials and technology to enhance their own vision for designing and making products that solve real and relevant problems; ensuring cultural capital in a variety of contexts. Students are given the opportunity to develop life skills such as planning, problem solving, evaluating, and developing technical expertise to understand the impact they can have in everyday life.
Design and Technology (DT) is studied by all students in year 7 to 9. Students can choose to study the subject further in year 10 and 11, as one of their GCSE option choices.
The Q3 Academy Tipton Design and Technology curriculum is designed to give a broad and balanced experience of subject topics in both elements of the subject, Food and Nutrition and Design and Technology, giving all students the opportunity to make good progress from their starting points which will inevitably differ due to the primary delivery of the Design and Technology KS2 curriculum. We will promote all the skills needed to develop a technical approach to problem solving and practical enquiry.
