ASDAN
ASDAN is a curriculum catering for the individual needs of the most vulnerable students. Learners are signposted to ASDAN in year 9 with the curriculum intent being on preparation for life after school.
The aim of ASDAN is to ensure that every student develops their full potential, both academically and personally. ASDAN focuses on developing independence, building confidence and widening students' social and intellectual experiences.
In years 10 and 11 students are given the opportunity to experience and develop both the hard and soft skills that are needed to continue into further educational settings and adulthood; equipping them with the skills for life. These will be based around: transport, finance, current affairs, communication, world of work and independence.
The aim of ASDAN is to foster the idea of “Achievement for all” and to encourage a “love of lifelong learning”. Therefore, the students are given the tools needed to become well-rounded independent citizens.
Students are assessed regularly, to determine their individual needs. This then allows teaching to be tailored to meet the needs of the students and further develop their knowledge.
Students often, through no fault of their own, can arrive at secondary school with different degrees of understanding and are often missing key skills, have misconceptions or there are gaps in their learning. ASDAN is designed to close the gaps in key skills in a practical manner, providing real life experiences for the students to apply their knowledge in preparation for their futures.

Work Skills
Work Skills is a BTEC curriculum catering for the individual needs of students. Learners are signposted to Work Skills in year 9 with the curriculum intent of being prepared for life after school. Supporting Maths, English and Job Skills for further development. Key Skills refer to a particular set of skills that are often needed in a range of activities in education, training, work and life in general.
The aim of Work Skills is to ensure that every student develops their full potential, and is supported to achieve skills in preparation for adulthood. Work Skills focuses on developing independence, building confidence and widening students' social and intellectual experiences.
In years 10 and 11 students are given the opportunity to experience and develop skills that are needed to continue into further educational settings and adulthood; equipping them with skills for life. These will be based around:
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Initiative
- Problem-solving
- Computer / IT skills
- Organisation
- Leadership
- Hard work and dedication
Work Skills will assist with important skills and qualities that employers look for in candidates. Students receive a certificate upon completion, which is based on portfolio building from tasks undertaken.
