Please find information about the Subjects which we offer at Year 9 & GCSE level.
Year 8 Pathways
Dear Student,
You are about to make an important decision about the subjects you are going to study for the next couple of years. However, this is also an exciting opportunity and gives you your first opportunity to really take control of your future pathway. Think carefully about the subjects you have been given in the list below and make sure that you read the rest of this information carefully. These preferences are for Year 9 only and you will choose again at the end of Year 9 for subjects that you wish to continue for your GSCEs in year 10 & 11.
Please note that expressing a preference in a subject does not mean that you will definitely get it. There is a lot to consider such as group sizes and whether you are suitable to take that subject. Suitability will be based on achievement to date, ability to meet deadlines (such as homework) and your behaviours in lesson.
All students will study the following subjects:
- English Literature and English Language (4 hours per week)
- Accelerated Reading (1 hour per week)
- Mathematics (4 hours per week)
- Science (4 hours per week)
- Wellbeing: PE – Health and Fitness (2 hours per week)
In addition to this:
- Ebacc preferences will be given 4 hours per week (Two subjects from this block)
- Other subject preferences will be given 3 hours a week. (Two subjects per rotation, a total of four subjects)
Other Subject preferences:
You must express two subjects that you would like to study from the Ebacc section and four subjects from the preferences section. You should give three reserve choices one for each section; make sure these are things you actually want to study as you may be allocated these.
